WEAVER — New coach, three starters out but no change for Weaver’s state champion girls’ wrestling program.
Jaylee Carter, Ashlyn Coleman, Ariel Sargent and Heaven Bishop won their weight classes, and Weaver rolled up 200 points while winning the 19-team Weaver Lady Bearcat Classic on Tuesday Tuesday.
Cleburne County took second place with 117 points.
Weaver went without starters Ali Anderson (concussion), Jaylyn Medley (vacation) and Bayleigh Brown (thyroid surgery), all expected to return to action.
First-year Weaver girls’ coach Wynn Knight.
“I feel like we have a lot of room to grow, a lot of room to improve,” he said. “Obviously, the program has been dominant in the past. That’s the expectation, and I’m very proud of how we completed.”
Knight took over for Justin Brown, who became the boys’ coach after long-time Weaver coach Andy Fulmer moved on to Cleburne County, where he now serves as an assistant coach in three sports.
