ALEXANDRIA — Cole Wheeler just finished his third season as Alexandria’s starting quarterback, so he knows something about being that guy for his team.

It’s served him well so far with a basketball team where he’s the lone returning starter.

Wheeler’s season of consistent production continued Tuesday. He hit three 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 22 points to lead the Valley Cubs to a 59-40 victory over Piedmont in the finals of Champions Sports Academy’s annual Christmas tournament.

Alexandria improved to 7-3, including a 5-0 mark against Calhoun County competition.
