Alexandria, Piedmont win in Champions tournament. Hokes Bluff, JCA victorious. Cleburne County, Ranburne split a boy-girl doubleheader.

ALEXANDRIA — Cole Wheeler hit three 3-pointers on the way to a game-high 23 points, and Alexandria’s boys beat Oneonta 47-40 in double overtime during Monday’s opening action in the Champions Christmas tournament.

Alexandria will play Piedmont on Tuesday, and Oneonta will play Weaver.

The Valley Cubs also got six points apiece from M.J. Morris and Evan White. 

Oneonta’s Kollin Weston hit three 3-pointers on the way to 12 points, and Luke Maples’ 11 points included three 3-pointers.

PIEDMONT 54, WEAVER 37: Taylon Swain led the way with 13 points, and Piedmont won in the Champions Christmas tournament in Alexandria.

Piedmont will play Alexandria at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, and Weaver will play Oneonta.

Nick Glover added 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and Rollie Pinto scored nine.

Weaver got 13 points from D.J. Marbury and eight from Phoxton Benjamin.

HOKES BLUFF 40, WHITE PLAINS 36: Noah Johnson scored 13 points and Caylor Jones 12, including two 3-pointers, to lead Hokes Bluff.

White Plains got 10 points from Will Graham, nine on three 3-pointers from Jonathon Sprayberry and eight from Bryson Cheatwood.

CLEBURNE COUNTY 67, RANBURNE 28: Cavin Bates led Cleburne County (10-1) with 12 points, and the Tigers got 11 apiece from Lyric Ware and Koby Hale.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 61, WOODLAND 48: Noah Lee led the way with 22 points, 18 rebounds and six assists, and JCA improved to 6-4.

He also had four steals.

Bryson Dowdey added 17 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Anthony Gooch added 13 points, three assists, two rebounds and two steals.

Girls

RANBURNE 43, CLEBURNE COUNTY 26: Ranburne’s Tinley Phillips scored a game-high 20 points, and Kallie Burson added eight.

Amilya Williams led Cleburne County with 12 points, and Emma Williamson added seven.
