One night after making his college signing, Oxford’s Alexander crosses major career scoring milestone. Kelly, Scoggins heat up for Jacksonville’s boys, and Piedmont opens with a victory. Alexandria splits with Ashville, and Oxford’s girls up to 6-1.

OXFORD — A day after marking his signing to play for Belmont University, Oxford’s Jaylen Alexander celebrated another achievement Thursday.

The senior point guard scored 19 points to lead the Yellow Jackets past Northgate 72–25. Along the way, he reached 2,000 career points.

Alexander scored 15 points in the first half and had all 19 by the end of the third quarter.

“I’ve had multiple Division I head coaches tell me that he’s ready to play in a Division I basketball game today, and I agree with them completely,” Oxford coach Joel Van Meter said at Wednesday’s signing ceremony. “That being said, he’s an even better person. I can’t even explain it.

“You talk about a joy to coach? He’s been raised the right way. He’s had tremendous support, building him up, breaking him down, building him back up. It’s allowed him to be the person that he is today. … He’s about us winning. He’s trying so hard to get us to the next level, in terms of getting to the Final Four.” 

Oxford (5-3) also got 11 points apiece from Chris Latson and Marcus Perry Jr. Caleb Wilson added nine points, and the Yellow Jackets got eight apiece from Conner Richerzhagen and Cooper Romano.

JACKSONVILLE 67, WHITE PLAINS 45: Jacksonville’s shooters came out shooting Thursday, and they tag-teamed.

Braylon Kelley hit six 3-pointers and scored 17 of his 20 points in the second half, and Mason Scoggins hit four 3-pointers and scored 17 of his 20 points in the first half. Scoggins also had four assists and three rebounds.

Jacksonville (5-1) also got 12 points, four rebounds and four assists from Ben Pridgen and eight from Kamouri Harmon.

Bryson Cheatwood paced White Plains with 16 points, and Harmon Cobb added 11.

PIEDMONT 68, SAND ROCK 59: Rollie Pinto poured in 21 points, and Piedmont’s boys opened their season with a victory.

Taylon Swain added 13 points, and Nick Glover added 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Sand Rock got 14 points from Jonas Browder, who hit three 3-pointers. Thomas Snead and Tyde Traffanstedt added 10 apiece.

ASHVILLE 74, ALEXANDRIA 50: J.B. Potter led Ashville with 18 points, and Brandon Farmer added 11. Parker Smith and Nate Huckbay added eight apiece.

Alexandria got 14 points from J.J. Beason, 12 from Cole Wheeler and 10 from M.J. Morris. 

Girls

ALEXANDRIA 41, ASHVILLE 30: Zoey Wilson hit three 3-pointers on the way to 15 points to lead Alexandria, and Kate Wheeler’s 11 points included two 3-pointers. Charlee Parris added seven points.

Ashville’s Maddie Sanders scored a game-high 16 points.

OXFORD 59, SARDIS 57: Bri Wilson and Takayvia Boyd scored 16 points apiece, and Oxford’s girls improved to 6-1.
