FLORENCE — Piedmont has won 26 football games and lost two the past two seasons. Problem was, Mars Hill Bible awaited in the Class 3A semifinals both years.
Hudson Higgins rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns, and Jaxon Penn rushed for 191 yards and four touchdowns as Mars Hill beat Piedmont 48-16 on Friday.
The Panthers (14-0) advanced to the Class 3A title game and will face Bayside Academy on Dec. 4 at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
Piedmont finished 13-1 for the second consecutive year. The Bulldogs fell to eventual state champion Mars Hill 49-20 in the 2024 semifinals.
Piedmont made its 10th semifinal appearance in 11 years.
Both Piedmont touchdowns Friday came on Cole Austin passes. Mason Morrow had two catches for 57 yards and a touchdown, and Jaxson Howard caught two passes for 26 yards and a score.
Jacksonville State commit Rollie Pinto threw a conversion pass to Taylon Swain. Playing his final football game for Piedmont, Pinto caught six passes for 20 yards and had four rushes for six yards.
Class 2A
COOSA CHRISTIAN 44, PISGAH 36: Coosa Christian is going back to the Super 7. So is Rush Propst.
Kylen Johnson rushed for 305 yards and six touchdowns, and the Conquerors outlasted Pisgah in Friday’s Class 2A semifinals. Coosa Christian (12-2) will play Lanett (12-2) in the Class 2A title game Dec. 5 at 3 p.m. in Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
Coosa Christian will play in the Super 7 for the first time since falling to Leroy 28-21 in 1A title game in 2023.
Propst, who became Coosa Christian’s interim head coach this season, will make his eighth Super 7 appearance. The Ohatchee native coached Hoover to seven state finals and five state title between 2000-06.
Propst called it “very special to be back in Birmingham,” he said. “It’s not Legion Field, but it’s been 19 years since 2006 loss to Prattville.”
Propst stepped in Mark O’Bryant, who was suspended by Coosa Christan in an effort to become eligible for the 2025 AHSAA playoffs. The AHSAA took the school off of restrictive probation.
Coosa Christian gained 357 total yards Friday, 332 on the ground. Johnson posted his third 300-plus-yard rushing game this season.
Class 1A
WADLEY 22, ADDISON 14: Defending Class 1A state champion Wadley is heading back to the Super 7.
Auburn commit Jaquez Wilkes scored on an 8-yard run with 3:49 left, and the Bulldogs downed Addison in Friday’s Class 1A semifinal action at Addison. Wadley (13-0), rushing a 26-game winning streak, will play Maplesville (14-0) on Dec. 4 at Birmingham’s Protective Stadium.
Wadley hasn’t lost since the 2023 quarterfinals at Pickens County. The Bulldogs beat Maplesville 37-7 in the 2024 Class 1A title game.
Wadley will make its first Super 7 appearance under first-year head coach Dake Rivers, who took over when Shenan Motley moved on to Beauregard.
Wilkes also had a 4-yard touchdown run Friday, and Damarious Spraddling threw a touchdown pass to Frisco Robertson.
