TUSCUMBIA — Damon Pope rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another, and fourth-ranked Anniston eliminated No. 8 Deshler 31-7 in Friday’s AHSAA Class 4A quarterfinals.

The Bulldogs (13-0) advanced to the semifinals and will go on the road to play No. 5 Plainview (13-0) for the right to advance to the Super 7.

Anniston will make its first semifinal appearance since 2019 and seek its first Super 7 appearance since winning its second Class 6A state title in 1994.

Pope ran for touchdowns of one, 42 and four yards. He also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Quintvious Cunnigham.

Jayden Heard put the cherry on top with a 35-yard touchdown run to provide the final margin.

“The boys played with passion and energy,” third-year Anniston coach Rico Jackson said. “Proud of their play and how they keep their composure in certain situations well.

“Big win on the road.”
