JACKSONVILLE — Qua McNeal rushed for a touchdown and returned an interception 60 yards for a score, and Jacksonville celebrated homecoming by handing sixth-ranked Leeds its first loss of the season Friday, 30-7.
With its second victory in as many weeks, Jacksonville improved to 3-2 under first-year head coach Jeremy Sullivan, 2-1 in Class 5A, Region 6.
Leeds fell to 4-1, 2-1.
Kelvin Hughley added a 50-yard touchdown run and an interception., and John Ducar hit three field goals.
“Defense played great,” Sullivan said. “The only time Leeds scored is when we turned it over on our own 15 (yard line) to start the second half.”
ANNISTON 24, HOKES BLUFF 0: Jabari Williams rushed for 171 yards and two touchdowns, and Anniston is off to its first 4-0 start since 2022. The Bulldogs improved to 3-0 in Class 4A, Region 6.
Hokes Bluff fell to 3-1, 2-1.
Anniston’s Quintavious Cunningham added 85 yards rushing.
Quarterback Jamorris Young hit on 9 of 13 passes for 94 yards. D.J. Pope completed all three of his passes for 34 yards, including a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jakorie Carr.
Pope also rushed for a 14-yard touchdown.
Anniston rushed for 311 of its 439 total yards and held Hokes Bluff to 94 total yards.
ALEXANDRIA 49, ONEONTA 33: Cole Wheeler completed 19 of 21 passes for 413 yards and five touchdowns, and Alexandria improved to 3-1 overall, 2-1 in Class 4A, Region 6.
Oneonta is 1-3, 0-3.
Wheeler’s touchdown passes covered 75, 48, eight yards to Evan White plus 85 and 57 yards to M.J. Morris.
Alexandria also got touchdown runs of one and 23 yards from Jayden Nixon. Counting 121 rushing yards, the Valley Cubs finished with 534 total yards.
CHEROKEE COUNTY 34, WHITE PLAINS 18: Keyshawn Woods rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns, and Cherokee County (4-1) improved to 3-0 in Class 4A, Region 6.
White Plains fell to 1-3, 0-3.
Jayshawn Stroup rushed for 67 yards, and Kadyn Coleman’s 23 yards rushing included a touchdown.
Adam Griffith completed four of seven passes for 85 yards and a touchdown.
White Plains’ Crew Martin hit on 13 of 21 passes for 127 yards and rushed for 17 yards with a touchdown. Antonio Woods and Braxxon Borrelli each rushed for 23 yards, and Woods had a touchdown run.
PLEASANT VALLEY 48, SAND ROCK 7: Braxton Salster accounted for 267 yards in total offense and four touchdowns, and ninth-ranked Pleasant Valley rebounded from its loss to Pisgah with a victory in Class 2A, Region 7.
The Raiders are 4-1 overall, 1-1 region. They also came back strongly after losing running back Jaden Sparks (knee) for the season.
Sand Rock is 1-4, 1-2.
Salster rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns and completed nine of 12 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown.
Kayden Vick rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown and caught a pass for 19 yards. Cooper Dougal had four catches for 36 yards and threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Hudson Sparks.
Nic Acker had three catches for 53 yards and a touchdown, and Walker Roper had an 8-yard touchdown run.
Pleasant Valley’s defense came up with two fumble recoveries and an interception. Brayden Pappa led the way with nine tackles and both fumble recoveries. Izayah Nevens had seven tackles (one for loss), four hurries and a sack, and Acker added seven tackles and an interception.
OHATCHEE 21, WEAVER 13: Phoenix Tuiolosega rushed for 88 of Ohatchee’s 220 rushing yards and a touchdown, and Ohatchee got its first win under head coach Blake Jennings.
The Indians (1-4) upped to 1-3 in Class 3A, Region 6. Weaver fell to 1-3, 1-2.
Jayden Siegler added 84 yards rushing with a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 84 yards.
Quarterback Carson Sanders completed nine of 12 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns, one each to Siegler and Alston Carroll.
HANDLEY 42, MUNFORD 14: Nate Vowell rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Handley upped to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in Class 4A, Region 3.
Munford is 0-4, 0-3.
Vowell’s touchdown run covered 70 yards.
Ladarius Tucker rushed for 46 yards and three touchdowns … 13, 13 and three yards. D.J. Grey added 60 yards rushing, with touchdown runs of three and two yards.
Elijah Bell added 56 yards rushing, and Handley gained 268 yards on the ground.
JCA 52, VICTORY 8: Noah Lee completed seven of eight passes for 203 yards and four touchdowns, and the Thunder improved to 3-0.
Lee also rushed for 50 yards.
Bryson Dowdey had three pass receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. He also had five tackles.
Dawson Wilkerson had three catches for 84 yards and two touchdowns to go with three tackles.
Griffin Daffron had 65 yards rushing and eight tackles. Anthony Gooch, Brodie Wilkerson and T.J. Scott had seven tackles apiece.
