WHITE PLAINS — Ava Haygood had a team-high 14 kills, and Cherokee County edged White Plains in a five-set Class 4A, Area 12 thriller Tuesday, 26-24, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25, 17-15.

It was part of an area doubleheader, with both White Plains and Cherokee County beating Anniston.

Cherokee County’s top performers against White Plains:

— Macy Lea: seven kills, two aces, six digs, 27 assists.
— Mattie Green: eight kills, three digs, one block, three assists.
— Haygood: 14 kills, two digs, one block, one assist.
— Jolie Alexander: 11 kills, four assists, one block, one assist.

— Jesslyn Hincy: 18 digs, three aces, three assists.
