Wigington shoots 5-under-par 65, leads the Wilfred Galbraith Invitational after the first round. Wells, Bussey and LeCroy also shoot sub-70 rounds.

ANNISTON — Gary Wigington shot a bogey-free, 5-under-par 65 Friday to lead after the first round of the Wilfred Galbraith Invitational at Anniston Country Club.
Wigington leads Tanner Wells by three strokes. Layton Bussey and Jacob LeCroy are four strokes back, and Kevin Daugherty and Dalton Chandler are five shots back.
The lead groups will tee off earliest Saturday, with the foursome of Wigington, Wells, Bussey and LeCroy going off at 8 a.m.
Wigington covered the front nine in 32 shots Friday, with birdies on Nos. 6 and 9. He birdied 11, 16 and 17 to shoot the back in 33.
“I just played solid and didn’t make any bogeys, which is good here,” Wigington said. “I chipped and putted real good and just played solid, good shots all around.
“After the first few holes, I didn’t get into any trouble, so it was a good round.”
The Wilfred Galbraith is the fourth points event and first three-round event in the 2025 Calhoun County Golf Tour.
“We don’t get to play many three-day tournaments anymore,” Wigington said. “It’s hard to put three good days together. Two days is hard.
“There’s a lot of good players, and I’m glad to be where I’m at right now.”
