Stokes leads the way at 79 as Alexandria girls win sectional title at Silver Lakes. White Plains, Piedmont girls also qualify for sub-state. Oxford’s Etter, Whaley qualify.

SILVER LAKES — Jasmine Stokes shot 79 to tie for second individually, and defending Class 4A-5A state champion Alexandria won the Section 3 tournament Tuesday.
The Valley Cubs shot 43-over-par for the day, 20 strokes better than second-place White Plains. Third-place Arab and and fourth-place Boaz also clinched team berths to next week’s sub-state tournament.
Defending state low medalist Polly McCrackin (Hayden) took low medalist at even 72 and advanced as an individual.
Individual scores:
ALEXANDRIA: Stokes 79, Nevaeh Foster 86 (tied for sixth), Alana Prickett 94.
WHITE PLAINS: Aubree Cobb 92, Cam McElroy 93, Madelyn Faulknner 94.
Class 3A, Section 3
PIEDMONT QUALIFIES: Reece Kirkpatrick led the Bulldogs with a 95, and they finished third to qualify for next week’s sub-state round.
Piedmont shot 306 at Flat Rock’s Dogwood Hills. Champion Locust Fork shot 292, and Ider took second at 298. Piedmont’s Rylie Holbrooks shot a 104, and Alley Smith shot a 107.
Class 6A, Section 2
TWO YELLOW JACKETS QUALIFY: Oxford’s Jay Whaley shot a 71 and Zoey Etter a 95 to qualify for sub-state. Whaley was the second-place individual, and Etter was the first-place individual qualifier.
Mountain Brook’s boys and girls won the team titles. Homewood, Mortimer Jordan and Gardendale rounded out the team qualifiers for boys, and Pell City and Homewood rounded out team qualifiers on the girls’ side.
