HOOVER – Carter Johnson and Peyton Watts combined to throw a three-hit shutout as Oxford blanked Cartersville 2-0 to reach the White Bracket finals of the National Perfect Game High School Shootout at the Hoover Met Complex.

The Yellow Jackets will play Loganville at 9 a.m. Saturday before making their way back to Calhoun County to play their first game in the Calhoun County Baseball Tournament ta 5:30 p.m. The Jackets lost to Loganville in the bottom of the seventh Thursday night.

Johnson worked the first five innings, gave up three hits and stuck out three. Thanks to a double play and Trey Higgins cutting down a runner at the plate Johnson faced only one batter over the minimum.

Watts struck out two and walked two in his two innings of relief.

The Jackets scored a run in the first on Watts’ sacrifice fly and a run in the seventh when Watts tripled and scored on a passed ball.

Softball

OXFORD – Ava Boozer doubled home Rylee Haynes with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth as time was expiring to lift Pleasant Valley past Sumiton Christian 4-3 to highlight the Lady Raiders’ day in the ASOF Tournament at Choccolocco Park.

The Lady Raiders (5-1) also defeated Sand Rock 6-3 and will play Chelsea, ACA, and White Plains Saturday.

Madison Borders got the win in the circle against Sumiton Christian and Leah Patterson beat Sand Rock with another 12-strikeout game.

Haynes, Bailey Harris and Lily Henry all had two hits for PV in the doubleheader. Boozer and Harris both had a pair of RBIs and Taylor Nix and Haynes each scored three runs.

JCA 15, Jefferson Christian 0:
Krymson Clay went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and allowed only two hits with seven strikeouts in three innings in the circle. Rebekah Carter also went 3-for-3, with a homer, triple and four RBIs. Mia Morales drove in three runs with a pair of hits and Kara Grace went 2-for-2 with an RBI.

Oxford 19, Hatton 4:
Tia Titi homered, Justice Woods went 3-for-3, Matti Sprawberry drove in three runs and the Lady Jackets broke open an already one-sided game with a 10-run third inning.

Oxford 10, Sardis 3:
Tia Titi continued to yield a hot bat, going 3-for-4 with five RBIs. Takya Garrett also went 3-for-4 and Riley Rhodes had two hits. Berkley Mooney pitched a one-hitter in the six-inning game.

Tennis

OXFORD – The Oxford boys and Donoho girls opened up considerable leads after doubles play in the annual Red Wilder Invitational Tournament at the Oxford Lake courts.

Donoho’s girls won all three doubles titles and Oxford’s boys won two of three to give their teams overall leads heading into Saturday’s singles competition.
