Oxford girls hit cold patch in middle two quarters, drop opener to Coosa Christian in Oneonta Tip-Off Tournament

ONEONTA – The Oxford girls basketball team opened its season with a good first quarter, then went cold on either side of halftime and dropped its season opener to Coosa Christian 38-35 Tuesday in the Oneonta Girls Tip-Off Tournament.

The Lady Jackets, playing the first game among Calhoun County teams in the first game of the tournament, jumped out front 10-3, but then were outscored by the Lady Conquerors 31-16 in the second and third quarters.

India Brown scored 13 of her 14 points in the middle two quarters for Coosa Christian, going 7-for-11 from the free throw line. Claire Davidson scored 10 of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter for the Lady Conquerors.

Akiera Robinson and Justyce Smith scored 11 points each for Oxford. Robinson hit three 3-pointers in the first half. Smith scored nine in the second half.

The Lady Jackets return to Oneonta Thursday to complete the tournament against Mortimer Jordan.
