Parris breaks record

Senior third baseman hammers her record-setting 10th homer of season; PV softball splits with Alexandria, Pleasant Valley

JACKSONVILLE – Pleasant Valley came within one inning of scoring a sweep of the three other top seeds in this month’s Calhoun County Softball Tournament, but split their Senior Night doubleheader, beating White Plains 6-5 and falling to Alexandria 3-2.

Parris’ record-setting 10th homer was two-run shot in the first inning and staked the Raiders to a 2-0 lead. She had 29 home runs in her career.

Savannah Williams went 3-for-4 and Ava Boozer went 2-for-3 for the Lady Raiders (31-15).

In the nightcap, Alexandria broke a 2-2 tied with Maggie Phillips’ one-out RBI single in the top of the seventh and pushed across a run in the top of the seventh. Millie Burt homered

Juliana Ballew and Cortney Williams each had one RBI for PV.

Earlier in the week the Lady Raiders swept a doubleheader from Oxford to open this pre-tournament gauntlet.
