Alexandria pitcher Cody Dodd officially sign to play baseball for Jacksonville State a couple weeks ago, but Friday he got to celebrate the occasion with his friends.

The senior right-hander was surrounded by family and friends at his signing party in the high school gym.

Dodd has wanted to play baseball for Jacksonville State for as long as he can remember and he made it official when he filled out the paperwork at the start of the signing period in November.

“I’ve been waiting for this since I was a little kid,” he told East Alabama Sports Today last month. “This is my dream right here, to get to play for JSU. This is the day I’ve been waiting for forever.”

Last year, his thing was going 8-2 with a 2.58 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 65 innings. He said the experience of his two post-season losses last year has taught him to be a better, smarter pitcher going forward.

Dodd was particularly strong in last summer’s North-South All-Star doubleheader when he effortlessly pitched three innings of one-hit shutout relief for the win in the opener. He faced 11 batters and retired the last seven in a row. He struck out three.

“That was probably one of the best feelings I’ve ever had playing baseball,” he said. “Getting to be a part of that and pitching the way I did that was awesome. I just when out there and threw it like I usually do.”

And now he can do it this spring without the pressure of having to make a college choice. His goals this year is to complete a run for a state title that fell short last year, keep his ERA below 2.00 and not lose a game.
