ALEXANDRIA — J.J. Beason rushed for 195 yards and five touchdowns, and Alexandria opened the Class 4A playoffs with a 47-35 victory over visiting Hamilton on Friday.
The Valley Cubs (10-1) will play at Scottsboro (11-0) in the second round.
Beason’s touchdown runs covered 24, 65, three, four and four yards.
Quarterback Cole Wheeler completed five of eight passes for 163 Yards, including touchdown passes of 68 and 85 yards to M.J. Morris.
Morris had six catches for 229 yards.
CLEBURNE COUNTY 49, ESCAMBIA COUNTY 13: Jaylen Baker completed six of 11 passes for 115 and three touchdowns, and Cleburne County (11-0) will travel to Cordova (8-3) in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.
Baker’s touchdown passes covered 55 and three yards to Cade Shubert and 11 yards to Lyric Ware. Shubert had three catches for a team-high 86 yards
Alijah Ware had 13 carries for 138 yards, with touchdown runs of three and four yards.
Bennett Grubbs added a 1-yard touchdown run, and Gavin Robionson threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Silas Hunt.
PIEDMONT 48, J.B. PENNINGTON 7: Jaxson Howard rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns, and Piedmont (10-1) will play host to Collinsville in next week’s second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Howard’’s touchdown runs covered 36, 28 and 66 yards. He also had a 62-yard touchdown reception.
Quarterback Cole Austin completed six of eight passes for 147 yards and two touchdowns, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to Carson Cleveland.
Nathan Studdard added 60 yards on seven rushes, and Aliandre Wright added a 13-yard touchdown run.
WELLBORN 36, COLBERT COUNTY 8: Mareese Traylor had 10 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns, and Wellborn (9-2) will play at Fyffe (9-1) in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Kaden Horton added 71 yards rushing and a touchdown, and DeMarion Tippins added a touchdown run.
Wellborn had 338 rushing yards, and Braden Horton completed two of eight passes for 36 yards and a touchdown.
PLEASANT VALLEY 35, PHIL CAMPBELL 6: Braxton Salster had 20 carries for 255 and three touchdowns, and Pleasant Valley (9-2) will play host to Gordo (10-1) in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Salster also had eight tackles.
Dixon Duncan added a touchdown run, and Cooper Dougal threw a touchdown pass to Nic Acker.
Jack Barnwell hit all five extra points.
Asher Tillman led the Raider defense with 11 tackles and two pass breakups, and Zeb Curvin had 10 tackles, including three for loss, a quarterback hurry and a fumble recovery.
Ayden Pate added nine tackles, two for loss.
