Oxfordโ€™s Rocco Maniscalco was selected in the second round of the Major League Baseball draft on Saturday, 50th overall, by the St. Louis Cardinals.

MLB.com estimates the pick to be worth $1.94 million.

Maniscalco, 17, was the 18th high school prospect selected. He signed with Mississippi State in February but reclassified to be available for this yearโ€™s draft.

The switch-hitting shortstop entered the draft ranked as the 49th overall prospect, according to MLB.com, and the highest ranked high school prospect from Alabama.
