Coggins’ no-hitter in Game 1, Andrews’ clutch pinch-hit in Game 2 prove decisive as Alexandria sweeps way into Class 4A quarterfinals.

ALEXANDRIA — Alexandria’s sweep of its second-round Class 4A playoff series with Fayette County on Thursday came down to a no-hitter and a pinch hitter.

Sawyer Coggins’ no-hitter in Game 1 keyed a 7-0 Alexandria victory, and Brody Andrews’ pinch-hit RBI single proved to be the decisive hit as the Valley Cubs won Game 2 9-6.

Alexandria (27-10) advanced to the quarterfinals and will face the Central-Florence-Plainview winner at dates and times to be determined.
