Spring roundup

White Plains girls win at Silver Lakes for eighth consecutive tourney victory. Alexandria softball gets 30th victory, and Lincoln wins in a thriller. Munford, Glencoe advance in baseball playoffs. Wellborn, Weaver and JCA fall.

Getting up and down with Thursday’s area prep golf and around the horn on Thursday’s area high school baseball and softball:  

Golf

White Plains’ girls’ golf team won their eighth consecutive tournament, taking the White Plains Invitational at Silver Lake. The Wildcats finished 2 under par and topped second-place Alexandria by 7 shots.

White Plains’ Maylee Stewart took medalist with a 5-over 77, and Alexandria’s Jasmine Stokes was second at 78. 

White Plains’ Aubrey Cobb shot 84 to finish tied for sixth, and Cam McElroy shot 87 to finish eighth.

Softball

ALEXANDRIA 10, JACKSONVILLE 0: Reece Carr pitched a one-hitter with nine strikeouts, and Alexandria improved to 30-10 on the season.

Boo Boo Bright went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Charlee Parris 2-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and an RBI.

Jacee Brooks tripled and drove in a run, and Ryan Lumpkin had a single, a run and an RBI. Baylee Elston  had a double and two runs, and Marley Edge had a double and a run. 

WEAVER 11, ANNISTON 1: Maddie Stanford went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Weaver improved to 12-14. 

Caitlyn Edmondson went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and two RBIs, and Ashlyn Coleman went 2-for-2 with a triple and three runs. 

Promise McLean and Heaven Bishop each had a single and an RBI. Ariel Sargent had a single, a run and an RBI.

Reyleigh Partner pitched a one-hitter with seven strikeouts. 

LINCOLN 13, OHATCHEE 11: Addison Campbell’s two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Lincoln (21-15-1) the walk-off victory. She went 2-for-4 with a home, a double, three runs and two RBIs,

Aubry Machen went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, the RBIs and two runs, and Cameron Pruitt went 1-for-3 with a double three RBIs and two runs. Kalia Fowles had a double, two RBIs and a run.

Shelby Williams and N Harrell each had a double and an RBI, and K Crow had a double and two runs.

Ohatchee’s Mollee Barnes went 2-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI, and Gracie Reed had a single and two RBIs.

Blaze Steward had a double, two RBIs and two runs, and Makayla Brackett had two RBIs. Alanah Fitch went 2-for-6 with two runs.

The Indians are 27-10.

GLENCOE 11, PIEDMONT 5: AndeeMae Skinner went 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Glencoe reached 12-16 on the season.

Evelyn Nowak went 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs, and Katy Talbot went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Victoria Romano had a single, a run and an RBI.

Kynsley Freeman allowed one walk with four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings on the way to the win.

Piedmont’s Nakia Bothwell went 3-for-4 with two runs, and Kaelyn Greene went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. 

MUNFORD 16, SYLACAUGA 2: Jena Gaither went 2-for-2, four RBIs and two runs, and Munford improved to 28-10.

Addyson Britt went 1-for-1 with a home run, the runs and two RBIs, and Chloe Pickette went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run. 

Madison Arnold went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and got the win, allowing two hits with five strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.  

HELENA 6, OXFORD 1: Madison Murphy and Tymeria Smith-Lindsey each single to account for Oxford’s two hits. The Yellow Jackets are 16-13. 

WELLBORN 10, TALLADEGA 8: Brylee Luker went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run, and Wellborn ticked up to 6-31.

Raelyn Webb went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, and Cassidy Gray went 2-for-4 with two doubles, a run and an RBI.

Braelyn Bean went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Gray pitched a complete game, allowing five hits with nine strikeouts. 

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 21, GADSDEN CITY 9: Aleya Crossley went 3-for-3 with four runs and three RBIs, and Westbrook Christian upped to 9-20.

Audry Snead went 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI, and Parker Borders went 1-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs.

ASHVILLE 1, WHITE PLAINS 0: Harper Dunn had a single and an RBI, and Lexi St. John spread out five hits while striking out 15 batters.

White Plains Carleigh-Anne Green went 3-for-4, and Kinsleigh Gross spread out seven hits with six strikeouts in six innings.  

Baseball playoffs

MUNFORD 13-17, PLEASANT GROVE 1-4: Munford (14-10 ) advanced to the second round to face the Houston Academy-New Brocton winner.

Landon Gallahair went 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, four RBIs and two runs in the frst game against Pleasant Grove. Braylon Stewart went 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and two runs.

Bryson Cooper went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and D.J. Hailes went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI.

Gallahair got the win, allowing two hits with 13 strikeouts in five innings.

B.J. Anderson went 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs and thre runs in Game 2, and Cage Champion went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs. Braydon Nichols went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Gallahair had a double and the runs, and Cooper went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

Nichols pitched a two-hitter with nine strikeouts.

GLENCOE 5-13, J.B. PENNNINGTON 2-9: Glencoe (14-20) advanced to face Gordo at home in the second round.

Aiden Johnson spread out five hits and struck out nine batters in the first game. He also went 2-for-3 with a run.

Bryce Borntrager had a single, a run and an RBI, and Justin Rogers went 2-for-4 with a run.

Borntrager went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in Game 2. and Jacob Loftis went 3-for-4 with the RBIs and two runs. Rogers went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs and an RBI.

Johnson had a single, a run and an RBI, and Luke Johnson had a single and an RBI.

OAKMAN 6-14, WEAVER 1-0: Wave finished the season 14-12 after falling at home to Oakman.

Zane Hairrell had a single and RBI in the first game, and Landon Free went 3-for-3 with a double in the second game. Tucker Michaels and Connor Hyatt each hit a double.

GORDO 14-15, WELLBORN 0-2: Wellborn finished 14-16 after falling to Gordo on the road.

Sawyer Thomas had a double in the first game, and Jackson Clark went 2-for-3 with a run in the second game, J.D. Talley and Ashton Woodard each had a single and an RBI.

APPALACHIAN 12-16, JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 2-2: JCA’s Jameson Holderread had a single and an RBI in Game 1, and Bryson Dowdey had a single and a run. Skyler Crider went 2-for-2.

Canaan Dowdey wnt 2-for-3 with an RBI in Game 2, and Bryson Dowdey went 2-for-4 with a run. Anthony Gooch had a single and a run.
