Spring roundup

Plenty of offense as White Plains softball tops Oxford. Alexandria tops Munford, and Ohatchee gets a shutout. Piedmont baseball wins in extra innings. Weaver boys’ soccer wins area title.

Going around the horn on Monday’s area high school baseball and softball and over the pitch with soccer:  

Softball

WHITE PLAINS 13, OXFORD 10: Carleigh-Anne Green went 2-for-5 with a triple, a double, four RBIs and two runs, and White Plains scored six runs in the top of the seventh inning on the way to reaching 22-17 on the season.

Carli Fritts went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, and Sara Kate Adams went 3-for-4 with a double, four runs and two RBIs.

Piper Thompson went 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI. Karli Otwell went 2-for-4 with an RBI, and Ansley Prichard went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.

Kinsleigh Gross pitched seven innings for the win, starting then coming back on in relief. She allowed 13hits but no walks with five strikeouts, and she held Oxford scoreless in the final three innings.

Oxford’s Madison Murphy went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Charleigh Trotter went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Cadence Kennedy went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Haleigh Pruitt went 1-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs, and Kylee Stephens went 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs. Tymeria Smith-Lindsey went 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Jordyn Alexander had a triple and a run, and Jayla Jackson had a double and a run.

ALEXANDRIA 12, MUNFORD 5: Charlee Parris and Cali Hess homered as Alexandria reached 28-10 on the season. 

Parris went 2-for-4 with the runs and two RBIs, and Hess went 3-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs.

Ryan Lumpkin went 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Baylee Elston went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Jacee Brooks went 2-for-5 with a double and a run, and Reece Carr had a double and two RBIs. Boo Boo Bright went 1-for-5 with two runs and an RBI.

Khloe England got the win, allowing two hits, no walks and no runs in three innings.

Munford (27-9) got home runs from Ashtyn Bishop, Brooklyn Pressley and Chloe Pickette. Bishop also had a double, and Pickette had two RBIs. 

OHATCHEE 4, WEAVER 0: Annie Cox pitched a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts, and Ohatchee upped to 26-9.

Madison Mize had a double and two RBIs and a run, and Gracie Reed went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Mollee Barnes went 2-for-3 with a run.

Weaver’s Promise McLean pitched a solid outing, allowing six hits, the earned runs and the walks with two strikeouts in seven innings.

GLENCOE 16, GASTON 0: Kynsley Freeman allowed two hits with two strikeouts in four innings, and Glencoe improved to 11-15. She also went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four runs and three RBIs.

Evelyn Nowak went 3-for-3 with a triple, a double, three runs and three RBIs, and AndeeMae Skinner went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs.

Victoria Romano went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs, and Caitlin Romano had a single, two RBIs and a run.

Anna Alred and Zowie Morris each had a single, a run and an RBI. 

JACKSONVILLE 13, LEEDS 4: Jalen Huntley went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and three runs, and Jacksonville improved to 9-15.

Alyssa Barns went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, and Ava Snead went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI. 

Sadi Pate-Whitfield went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, and Ana Strain went 2-for-5 with two runs. Avery Allen went 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Harper Atchley had a double and an RBI.

LINCOLN 14, ASHVILLE 3: Cameron Pruitt went 3-for-4 with a home run, the runs and the RBIs, and Lincoln upped to 20-14-1.

Aubrey Machen went 1-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs, and Gracyn Oglesby had a double and two RBIs.  

Emery-Kate Hendrix went 2-for-4 with the runs and an RBI. Chandler Stephens went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, and Shelby Williams went 2-for-4 with two runs.

Stephens got the win, allowing two hits with six strikeouts in five innings.

PIEDMONT 9, SAND ROCK 8: Piedmont (14-14-2) scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning then withstood Sand Rock’s six-run seventh.

Ellie Tolbert homered with two RBIs, and Amarae Champion went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run. K Wood had a single and two RBIs, and Anna Hase single with an RBI.

Tolbert got the win, allowing two hits with seven strikeouts with 4 2/3 innings.  

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 15, SUSAN MOORE 5: Ava Tucker went 1-for-3 with a team-high four RBIs and two runs, and Westbrook Christian improved to 7-20.

Reid Elam went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs, and Parker Borders went 1-for-4 with a double, four runs and an RBI.

Aleya Crossley went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI, and Audry Snead went 3-for-4 with a double and the runs.   

Elam got the win, allowing four hits, two walks and one earned run with one strikeout in five innings.

Baseball

PIEDMONT 5, RANBURNE 4: Brenan Hurst’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled Piedmont to 25-7 on the season.

Cole Austin went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI, and Carson Cleveland went 2-for-2 with a double. Jaxson Howard had a double and two runs, and Charlie Sparks hit a double.

Austin got the win in relief, pitching a perfect 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts.

Ranburne (22-11-1) got a double apiece from Drew Davenport, Carter Loren and Owen Henderson. Davenport went 2-for-3. 

ALEXANDRIA 7, OHATCHEE 0: J.D. Copeland pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts, and Alexandria improved to 23-10.

Garrett Haynes went 2-for-2 with a run, and Cam Johnson went 1-for-3 with two runs. Emmitt Waldrep, Cole Wheeler and Kasen Gardner each had a single and an RBI.

Ohatchee’s Kaleb Brunner and Jayden Green each hit a single.

CENTRAL-CLAY 6, HORSESHOE BEND 2: J.T. Wilkerson went 3-for-4 with a double, the RBIs and a run, and the Vols reached 12-10 on the season. Hudson Foster went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Central-Clay pitchers combined to hold Horseshoe Bend to four hits. Braden Sprayberry allowed one hit with the strikeouts in the innings.

GERALDINE 13, DONOHO 3: Donoho’s Sam Montgomry had a single and two RBIs. Gager Church went 2-for-2 with a double and a run, and Hartwell Church hit a triple.

SOUTHSIDE 8, WHITE PLAINS 5: Eli Stewart went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, and Southside upped to 16-14. 

Abe Martin went 3-for-4 with the runs. Shelby Houston and Ethan Sarratt each had a single, a run and an RBI, and Carson McGraw went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. 

Kolt Johnson had a single and an RBI.

Will Runyan got the win while pitching two innings of relief.

White Plains’ Matthew Masson went 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run. Walker Edwards and Elijah Turner each had a double and an RBI, and Logan Laube had a double and a run.  

SPRING GARDEN 6, WELLBORN 2: Brody Bostick got the win, allowing two hits with six strikeouts in five innings, and Spring Garden rose to 16-10.

Brady Ruark and Eli Bates each had a single, a run and an RBI, and the Panthers got an RBI apiece from Bostick and Clayton Sadler.

Wellborn’s Zach Pressley had a single and an RBI, and Jackson Clark went 2-for-2. Ashton Woodard hit a triple, and Sawyer Thomas hit a double. 

WEAVER 5, RAGLAND 2: Connor Hyatt homered and had three RBIs, and Weaver upped to 14-10.

Tracen Jones went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Tucker Michals went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

Landon Free got the win, allowing three hits, two earned runs and no walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Michaels allowed one walk, no hits or runs with six strikeouts in three innings.  

WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 9, SARDIS 7: Wil Chadwick went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs, and Westbrook Christian rose to 18-9 on the season.

Brodie Johnson went 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI, and Brady Carden went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and an RBI.

Emmett Daniel went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run, and Bo Kilgo hit a double.

Soccer

WEAVER BOYS 4, FAITH CHRISTIAN 1: Joe Vines scored two goals and dished out an assist, and Wavr clinched the Class 1A-3A, Area 5 title.

Uli Lazcano and Caleb Hotaling each scored a goal, had Hotaling had an assist. Gianluca Torres had an assist.

Goalie Zachary Rhodes had six saves.
