Foster shoots 75, leads Alexandria girls to second-place finish at sub-state. Valley Cubs qualify for state. White Plains’ Edwards finishes second to qualify.

GADSDEN — Neveah Foster shot a team-best 75, and Alexandria’s girls finished second in the Class 4A-5A North 2 sub-state golf tournament at Twin Bridges on Tuesday.

The Valley Cubs qualified as a team for the state tournament May 13-14 at RTJ-Shoals.

Alexandria’s Jasmine Stokes shot 80, and the Valley Cubs got 84s from Marlee Hedgepeth and Avery Prickett. As a team, they shot 239 and finished three strokes back of West Point.

“They played really, really well,” Alexandria coach Craig Kiker said. “We played our best round at the right time.

“I’m very proud of them. All the credit goes to their work ethic and Coach (Brenard) Howard, getting them prepared to play.”

Led by Isabel Rogers’ 81, White Plains shot 259 and finished fourth.

Boys 4A North

White Plains’ Sawyer Edwards shot 3-under-par 69 and finished second by two strokes to qualify for state individually.

White Plains shot 313 as a team and finished third behind champion Haleyville and runner up Priceville by six strokes. The top two teams qualify for state.

Wyatt Cotney shot 78, Ryder Hudgins 81 and Ethan McCareeth 85.
