JACKSONVILLE — All-state outfielder and leadoff hitter Jill Cockrell went 2-for-4 in her season debut, and Alexandria beat Jacksonville 13-2 in Thursday’s prep softball action.

Cockrell missed the season’s first eight games with an ankle injury. She had two of Alexandria’s 18 hits, including seven extra-base hits, in a big day at the plate for the Valley Cubs (8-1).

Allyssa Hunt went 2-for-4 with a home run, double and three RBIs.

Clancy Bright hit a triple and had an RBI. Brenlee Sparks went 2-for-3 with a triple, double two runs and RBI.

Pressley Slaton was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and RBI, and Christian Hess was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.

Kaden Pritchett went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Reece Carr got the win, allowing two hits with two strikeouts and no walks in 1 2/3 innings.

For Jacksonville (3-5), Lacey Barnes had a single and RBI, and Ke’Asiah Williams drove in a run,

OXFORD 15, GADSDEN CITY 0: Berkley Mooney allowed no hits in a three-inning game and struck out five batters with one walk. She also went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and five RBIs.

Chloe Hulsey went 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Emma Tims-Becerra went 2-for-2 with a double three runs and two RBIs. Kaelyn Crossley tripled and drove in two runs, and JaMea Gaston had a single and two RBIs.   

Oxford also got a double each from Ashlyn Burns and Charleigh Trotter. Burns scored three runs, and Trotter had an RBI.

PLEASANT VALLEY 12, RANDOLPH COUNTY 5: Pleasant Valley got two RBIs apiece from Aubree Cromer, Gracee Ward, Haylie Lee and Abigail Evans. Lee hit a double while going 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and Ward was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.

Jordan Cheatwood went 1-for-3 with a double, run and RBI, and Alexa Cranmer was 3-for-5 with a run and RBI.

Talee Sims led Randolph County’s attack, going 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Brantlee Wortham had a double and RBI.

PIEDMONT 10, WEAVER 0: Piedmont’s Savannah Smith pitched a one-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks, and she contributed two RBIs at the plate.

Cacey Brothers went 2-for-2 with a run and three RBIs, and Amiyah Thomas had a double, run and two RBIs. Carson Young and Eliza Mathis added an RBI apiece.

Jayden Smith had Weaver’s hit, a single.

ASHVILLE 7, OHATCHEE 5: Savannah Reaves had a triple and two RBIs, and Alanah Fitch had a double. Mackenzie Luna went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Jordyn Faulkner came on in relief in the first inning and worked seven innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs and a walk.

Baseball

WHITE PLAINS 10, PLAINVIEW 2: Cooper Tinney pitched six innings, allowing five hits and four walks with six strikeouts. He also went 2-for-3 with a double and a run as White Plains improved to 6-5.

Paul Laube went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI, and Ian Douglas singled and drove in two runs. Dalton Luker, Braxxon Borrelli and Aiden Kilgore had an RBI apiece.

PLEASANT VALLEY 15, GASTON 1: Pleasant Valley’s John Garrett Bryant had a triple and three RBIs.

Samuel Duncan, Holt Bentley and Noah Johnson had two RBIs apiece. Bentley went 2-for-4 with two runs.

L Williams went 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and an RBi, and Will Underwood went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

Braxton Salster doubled and scored a run.

Bryce Freeman pitched six innings, allowing six hits and two walks but no earned runs with five strikeouts.

OHATCHEE 23, WELLBORN 6: Jesse Baswell went 5-for-6 with a triple, run and six RBIs, and Ohatchee pounded out 20 hits.

Jakson Smith went 3-for-5 with a double, run and three RBIs, and Dylan Ramsey had a single, three runs and two RBIs.

Tyler Green was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and RBI. Jake Roberson was 2-for-4 with a double, five runs and one RBI, and Jayden Green went 3-for-4 with four runs and an RBI.

SOUTHSIDE 8, JACKSONVILLE 7: Jacksonville took the lead with a five-run sixth inning, but Southside answered with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.

The go-ahead run came on Shelby Houston’s RBI double with two outs.

William Johnson went 3-for-3 with a double, three runs and three RBIs. Carson McGraw was 2-for-4 with a double and run.

Ethan Sarrat and Angelo Alberigia each had an RBI.

Jacksonville’s Jackson Bonner had a double and three RBIs, and Zay Lemon went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Bradyn Loggins and Matthew Salmon each had an RBI.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 11, SAKS 1: Travis Barnhill struck out 15 batters while throwing a two-hitter and helped his cause by going 2-for-4 with a run.

Noah Lee led at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and four RBIs. Bryson Dowdey went 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs.

Jesse Gannaway and Skylar Crider each had two hits and an RBI.

Soccer

DONOHO GIRLS 6, COLLINSVILLE 3: Anna Kate Wallace scored two goals, and Class 1A-3A top-ranked Donoho beat No. 7 Collinsville. Erin Turley, Samantha Wakefield, Lauren Wigley and Chloe Melton scored a goal apiece.

Collinsville’s Leslie Coronoa scored three goals.
