Colton Morris has clarity on his next assignment within the Calhoun County school system.

The former Pleasant Valley High girls’ basketball coach will teach and coach at Alexandria, the school’s Facebook page announced today. He will teach social studies and “coach various athletic programs at AHS,” the Alexandria High School Valley Cubs post said.

Morris said he’s not certain how many sports in which he’ll coach, just “football for sure.”

“I am looking forward to the new journey,” Morris said. “Alexandria is an awesome school and community. God leads me right where I need to be.”

Savannah Morris, Colton’s wife, worked at Alexandria Elementary in her first year in teaching “and absolutely loved the school and community,” Colton Morris said.

Morris served as Pleasant Valley High School’s head varsity girls’ basketball coach the past three seasons and served as a volunteer coach across several sports for eight years before that. The Raiders finished 20-7 this past season and made their fourth Northeast Regional appearance and first since 2016.

For guiding the Raiders to the regional, Morris was named the Class 1A-3A All-Calhoun County coach of the year.

He learned in early April that he would be “moved” within the system in budgetary moves.
