Edwards medalist as White Plains’ boys take title; medalist Ledbetter leads Weaver boys to second; Piedmont boys take fourth to also qualify for sub-state tournament

GADSDEN — Sawyer Edwards’ medalist performance led the way Tuesday as White Plains’ boys won the Class 4A, Section 3 title at Twin Bridges.

In 3A, Section 3, also at Twin Bridges, low medalist Nick Ledbetter led the way as Weaver took second place, and Piedmont finished fourth. Both teams qualified for sub-state competition.

White Plains shot 305 to beat second-place Etowah by 50 strokes, and Edwards’ 71 was three strokes better than teammate Wyatt Cotney’s 74.

Zach Limberis shot a 91 for Jacksonville, which finished six strokes behind fourth-place finisher and final sub-state qualifier DAR.

Ledbetter shot a 71 to lead the field by 10 strokes, and Weaver finished at 362, 24 strokes back of sectional champion Westbrook Christian. Jackson Williams shot a 91.

Piedmont shot 389. Alex Odam led the Bulldogs at 85, and Conner Williams shot 95.

Class 4A-5A, Section 3 girls

Avery Prickett shot an 84 and Marlee Hedgepeth an 85, and Alexandria won the sectional with a team score of 262.

White Plains finished second, 16 strokes back. Isabel Rogers shot a 78 to tie for low medalist, and Rachel Gattis shot a 99.

Both teams qualified for sub-state.

Class 5A, Section 3 boys

At Eagle’s Nest in Guntersville, Alexandria shot 342 and finished second place, seven strokes back of Southside. The Valley Cubs qualified for sub-state.

Fisher Prichard led Alexandria at 80 and tied for fourth place, one stroke ahead of teammate Cleat Forrest.

Southside’s Justin Lavoy was low medalist at 77.

Class 6A, Section 3 boys

At Cider Ridge, Oxford shot 336 and qualified for sub-state with a third-place finish, 18 strokes off of champion Mountain Brook’s pace and 12 strokes behind runner up Homewood.

Oxford’s Cohen Picton shot 78, four strokes back of co-medalists Carter Brooks and Christopher Yielding, of Mountain Brook.

Oxford’s Nic Boyd shot 84.

Class 6A, Section 3 girls

At Cider Ridge, Oxford shot 330 and finished third, qualifying for sub-state. Annabelle Page led the Yellow Jackets at 92, in third place.

Class 1A-3A, Section 3 boys

At Flat Rock’s Dogwood Hills Golf Course, Pleasant Valley’s Zeke Curvin shot an 86 to qualify individually for the sub-state tournament.
