BOSTON — Oxford’s resurgence in distance events helped the Yellow Jackets sweep the Calhoun County boys’ and girls track championships for the second year in a row two weeks ago, and their coach went the distance Monday in Boston.

Landon Delozier completed the Boston Marathon in 3:01.

He was “about 11 minutes off of goal pace, but mainly because I didn’t realize the pounding my quads would take on the first 12 miles of downhill,” he said via text.

Oxford’s boys won their sixth consecutive county track championship on April 5 at Choccolocco Park, and the girls won their second in a row. Among the Yellow Jackets’ team highlights were sweeps in distance events, with Katie Keur winning the 800-, 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs on the girls’ side and Noah George taking the 1,600 and 3,200 in the boys’ meet. Oxford’s Evan Somers won the 800.

Delozier is also Oxford’s cross country coach.
