Ward hits two of PV’s four homers; Ohatchee ties it in seventh and ninth innings, wins in 10th; Piedmont walks it off again; Slaton stars for Alexandria; Weaver, Munford win

WHITE PLAINS — Led by Gracee Ward’s two home runs, the Raiders hit four en route to victory. Sydney Beason and Lily Henry also homered.

Madyson Cromer hit two of Pleasant Valley’s four doubles. Ward and Macey Roper each hit one.

Cromer, Ward and Beason drove in three runs apiece.

White Plains’ Leighton Arnold homered twice among her three hits and drive in four runs. Callie Richardson doubled twice, and Hallie Williams and Karli Otwell hit one double apiece.

The two teams combined for 14 extra-base hits.

Pleasant Valley, ranked No. ? in Class 2A in the Alabama Sports Writers Association poll, improved to 10-8. White Plains, receiving votes in Class 4A, is 17-11. 

OHATCHEE 8, HOKES BLUFF 7: Speaking of dramatics, Ohatchee got game-tying runs in the seventh and ninth innings and a game-winning run in the 10th.

In the seventh, Alanah Fitch singled to lead off and stole second with two outs. Whitney McFry struck out on a dropped third and reached on an error, and they had an error, allowing Fitch to score. 

In the ninth, Fitch led off with a single, followed by Alyssa Davis’ single. McFry walked, and Hannah Fitch popped out to center field to sacrifice Alanah Fitch home. 

Mackenzie Luna bunted into a fielder’s choice in the 10th, and Savannah Reaves singled to move her to second base. Ellie Carden singled to center field to score Luna on the walk off. 

Carden had two hits and two RBIs. Hannah Fitch and Lexi Thomas had a hit and RBI apiece. Thomas had a double.

Ohatchee improved to 15-13.

PIEDMONT6, ST. CLAIR COUNTY 5: Make it two walk offs in as many days for Piedmont.

Cayla Brothers singled home Savannah Smith with the game-ending run in the bottom of the seventh. Smith reached on an error and moved on Cacey Brothers’ single.

Cayla Brothers went 3-for-4 with a triple, run and RBI.

Jenna Calvert had a hit and two RBIs, and Smith had a hit and RBI.

Ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, Piedmont improved to 23-8.

ALEXANDRIA 16, CENTRAL-CLAY 3: Pressley Slaton homered, hit two doubles and drove in four runs to lead the way as Alexandria clinched the right to host the Class 5A, Area 10 tournament.

Slaton also pitched six innings, allowing five hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

Allyssa Hunt also homered while going 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs.

Lauren Weber went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs, and Brenlee Sparks was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Ranked No. 9 in Class 5A, Alexandria improved to 19-15.

WEAVER 8, SAKS 0: Kinlee Fulmer gets the win with a one-hitter. She struck out 15 batters and was 1-for-3 at the plate.

Payton Marvasty went 2-for-4 with two doubles. Alana Cooper, Kinley Marvasty and Jayden Smith each had a hit.

Weaver is 12-4 overall, 3-1 in Class 3A, Area 10.

MUNFORD 9, LINCOLN 1: Khloe Shears struck out six batters over five innings, and Emma Gaither struck out three batters while getting the save.

Blair Darby and Jena Gaither went 3-for-3, and Darby homered. Raleigh Dew and Ashton Bishop each had two hits.     

Munford (14-5) will play area foe Talladega on Thursday.
