Oxford girls get No. 1 seed, five-time defending champion Donoho No. 2 headed into this week’s county tournament; boys to play Isaac Cook Invitational

By East Alabama Sports Today

Calhoun County girls’ high school soccer coaches see a change coming atop county pecking order.

They voted Oxford (5-4) as the top seed going into this week’s county tournament at McClellan. The Yellow Jackets are 2-0 against county competition, with a 6-0 victory over Weaver and a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville, and will receive a first-round bye.

Donoho, which has won the past five county tournaments, is 3-0-1 against county competition. The Falcons beat Saks 3-2, Faith Christian 10-0, Weaver 7-0 and tied Jacksonville 0-0.

The girls’ seedings with records were as follows: 1. Oxford (5-4), 2. Donoho (5-1-1), 3. Saks (8-3), 4. Jacksonville (5–2-1), 5. Weaver (3-6), 6. Faith (0-9) and 7. White Plains (3-5).

With only five boys’ teams this season, there will be no boys’ county tournament. In lieu of a county tournament, the boys will play the Isaac Crook Invitational at Choccolocco Park.

The tournament was named to honor late Weaver player Isaac Crook, who died while working out on the school track in December of 2020.
