Bonner, Pridgen lead Jacksonville past Lincoln in baseball; Alexandria, Pleasant Valley sweep, and JCA tops Weaver; Piedmont, Weaver, PV win in softball

LINCOLN — Jackson Bonner and Drew Pridgen drove in four runs apiece as Jacksonville downed Lincoln 14-2 in Thursday’s high school baseball action.

Bonner and Pridgen each had two hits, and Bonner homered.

Jacksonville also got two RBIs from Gavin Peeler and one from

Grant Patterson and Coleman Guthrie combined to pitch a one-hitter for the Golden Eagles. Patterson pitched the first four innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Guthrie pitched the fifth inning.

ALEXANDRIA 7-6, SOUTHSIDE 1-2: At Southside, Tripp Patterson pitched a complete game in Game 1, and Brayden Thacker went 6 2/3 innings in the night cap as Alexandria (14-3, 3-0 area) registered Class 5A, Area 12 victories.

Patterson spread out six hits over seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Thacker struck out 10 batters with two walks and allowed seven hits, and Ian Cartwright struck out the final batter.

In Game 1, Evan Snow, Eli Barnes and Brodie Slaton had three hits apiece, and Snow hit a double. Snow and Ty Brown each drove in two runs, and Brown hit a double.

In Game 2, Snow drove in two runs. Samuel Henegar and Zach Baskins had two hits apiece.

PLEASANT VALLEY 10-27, SAND ROCK 6-3: Playing under interim head coach Dalton Turner, Pleasant Valley won two in Class 2A, Area 13 play.

The Raiders had several big performances in Game 2, a three-inning affair. Samuel Duncan led the way, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, five runs and five RBIs.

Connor George had a double while going 4-for-4 with three runs and five RBIs.

Noah Johnson and Braxton Salster each had two hits and drove in four runs. Holt Bentley went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs, and Will Underwood went 1-for-3 with two runs and three RBIs.

Zeke Curvin had a double and RBI.

Pleasant Valley scored 12 runs in the first inning, 11 in the second and four in the third. The Raiders mounted 18 hits.

In Game 1, Curvin went 3-for-4 with a run and four RBIs, and Underwood had a triple and drove in three runs.

Bentley had a double among his three hits and scored two runs.

JACKSONVILLE CHRISTIAN 13, WEAVER 4: Noah Lee went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a triple and four RBIs to lead JCA. He also allowed one hit with two strikeouts in one inning of relief.

Travis Barnhill and Tyler Doggrell each went 2-for-5. Doggrell drove in two runs, and Barnhill drove in one.

Ethan Fair had a single and two RBIs, and Dean Dupree singled and drove in a run.

Cam Moses got the start, allowing seven hits and six walks with nine strikeouts in six innings.

Softball

PIEDMONT 4, FORT PAYNE 1: Savannah Smith pitched a four-hitter and went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI to lead Piedmont (10-5).

Sarah Goss was 1-for-3 with a run, and Cacey Brothers was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI. Armoni Perry had a double, run and RBI.

Piedmont took charge with four runs on four hits in the first inning. Goss and Smith singled, and Brothers hit a two-out single. Perry followed with a double.

WEAVER 7, WELLBORN 3: Ella Mae Kines, Annaliese Shirvinski and Madison Atchley had two hits apiece as Weaver improved to 8-3 overall, 2-1 in Class 3A, Area 10 play.

Kynlee Fulmer struck out seven batters and allowed three hits.

PLEASANT VALLEY 16, RANBURNE 0: Rebekah Gannaway doubled and drove in four runs on the day, and Madyson Cromer homered and doubled while going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs as the Raiders improved to 6-6 with a win in 2A, Area 9 play.

Haylie Lee 1-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs. She also pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts.

Sydney Beason went 2-for-2 with a run and two RBIs, and Lily Henry went 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Alexa Cranmer and Gracee Ward drove in a run apiece.
