Greer wins at Cider Ridge

Auburn pro shoots 6-under to win second event in PGA Alabama-NW Florida Section Stroke Play series; Cider Ridge’s Lett second

By East Alabama Sports Today

OXFORD – Jake Greer built a Scottie Scheffler Masters-type lead through 16 holes Monday and it was plenty to withstand a Scottie Scheffler Masters-type finish and win the second event of the PGA Section Stroke Play series at Cider Ridge.

Greer, the head pro at the Auburn University Club, posted a 6-under-par 66 to win the one-day event by five shots over Jammie Lett, Cider Ridge’s director of golf, and Henry Westmoreland of Pensacola Country Club.

He was 6-under at the turn after an eagle on 9 and bogey-free 9-under through 16 with an eight-shot lead before finishing up with a bogey at 17 and double on 18.

Scheffler, the No. 1 player in the world, had a five-shot lead coming to 18 at the Masters on Sunday and it was more than enough to hold up through some untidy work on the green at the finish.

With this second-place finish, Lett pulled into second place on the PGA Alabama-Northwest Florida Section Stroke Play series points list.

“I’m going to win one here pretty soon I think,” he said.
