Alexandria, Pleasant Valley, White Plains all win 2 games in Lady Wildcat Classic

OXFORD – Alexandria, Pleasant Valley and host White Plains all won two games in the opening night of the Lady Wildcat Classic at Oxford Lake.

ALEXANDRIA: The Lady Cubs got a pair of one-hitters from Pressley Slaton and Ryleigh Gattis. They beat Ranburne 9-1 behind Slaton’s gem and homers from Christian Hess and Daisy Bowie. They beat Handley 4-0 behind Gattis’ gem. Gattis struck out 10 in three innings and Addie Jennings hit a grand slam in the first inning. 

PLEASANT VALLEY: The Lady Raiders (10-5-1) won twice, beating Collinsville 6-1 and blanking Cleburne County 2-0. They broke open the Collinsville game with a four-run fourth inning. 

WHITE PLAINS: The tournament hosts beat Sardis 7-1 and blanked Woodland 10-0. Leighton Arnold pitched a four-inning one-hitter with seven strikeouts and Callie Richardson homered in the Sardis game. Richardson pitched a four-inning one-hitter against Woodland. Callyn Martin went 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

CLEBURNE COUNTY: The Lady Tigers did get a win on the day, beating Collinsville 5-3 behind Jayci Boozer’s homer and three innings of perfect relief with seven strikeouts.

Fort Payne Tournament

Piedmont split its two opening-night games, beating Pisgah 8-1 and falling to Fort Payne 7-3. Emily Farmer pitched a three-hitter against Pisgah and went 3-for-3 at the plate. Savannah Smith and Cayla Brothers both homered for the Lady Bulldogs in the Fort Payne game.

Regular season

JCA 16, Vincent 5:
The Lady Thunder had their hitting shoes on. Rebekah Carter went 4-for-5, Hannah Clayton had three extra-base hits, Payten Walker went 3-for-4 with a homer and seventh grader Erin Prater went 3-for-4. Krymson Clay scattered nine hits in the circle to get the win and helped her cause by going 2-for-3 at the plate.
