GASTON – In one of the great mysteries of the season, the Piedmont basketball team hits a rough patch during its Christmas holiday schedule, but Tuesday the Bulldogs changed their fortunes in a most dramatic way.

Alex Odam hit a runner with less than one second remaining to give the Bulldogs a 64-63 win over Moody in the consolation bracket of the Gaston Christmas Classic. Odam scored 12 of his game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter. He also dished eight assists.

Odam hit a 3 to put the Bulldogs up 62-60, but Moody came back and converted a three-point play to go back up one with 10 seconds left. Omarion Foster got it in to Odam who drove the floor and put up his shot with three-tenths of a second to go.

“There was no play called,” Piedmont coach JoJo Odam said. “It was just him making a play at the end.”

Foster had nine points and nine rebounds. Luke Bussey had 10 points and nine rebounds. Jakari Foster had 11 points.

“We battled better, we played harder (than Monday’s loss to Springville),” Odam said. “We tried to tell them yesterday if we play harder good things happen. We made a lot of mental mistakes, but we were able to overcome it.”
