Oxford, Donoho, Ohatchee all win area matches 3-0, Calhoun County Tournament seeding meeting Wednesday

OXFORD – Lakijah Brown had 15 kills and Adrionna Foster recorded 16 assists as Oxford remained in a strong spot in its area with a 3-0 victory over Springville.

The Lady Jackets (18-10, 3-1) won the first two sets handily 25-15, 25-14, then were locked in a battle in the third set before closing out the match 30-28.

Kara King scored seven kills and Channing Gallahar had five. Brown also recorded 12 digs; Ashely Paulson had seven and Aametria Wilson had five. Cadie Burn was credited with nine assists.

The area is a tight race. The Lady Jackets’ lost to Southside in five sets, but Springville beat Southside in five. Those two teams play later this week and Oxford gets Southside on Sept. 29 in a match that could decide the No. 1 seed in the area tournament.

Donoho 3, Faith Christian 0

Donoho coach Jamie Clendenin got a little animated at the way his team played in the first set against the Lady Lions and it responded.

The Lady Falcons won the first set of their area match 25-11, but didn’t look sharp doing it. Clendenin let them know about and they responded by winning the second set 25-2 before closing out the match 25-17.

Lily Grace Draper had nine kills and four aces, Mercy Mangum had seven kills and three aces, Mary Marshall Perry had six kills and Estella Connell had five kills. Maggie Miller had 16 assists and Ayesha Siddiqua had seven. Sam Wakefield had six digs and two aces, and Naira Rehman had three aces.

Ohatchee 3, Weaver 0

WEAVER – Jorda Crook had 18 kills and five blocks, Gracee Haynes had six kills and 16 digs, and Ohatchee remained unbeaten in area play, beating Weaver 25-17, 25-8, 25-20, in the Lady Bearcats’ first home match since returning from COVID quarantine.

Gracie George had seven kills and four blocks for Ohatchee, while Tori Vice and Haley Feemster both had eight digs and Abby Hester recorded 16 assists.
