Lady Jackets beat Pell City, Alexandria in a pair of matches that are meaningful for a variety of reasons; also, Spring Garden tops Donoho

OXFORD – The Oxford volleyball team picked up a pair of victories Monday night that each carried its special value.

The Lady Jackets defeated Pell City 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 26-24) to improve to 2-0 in their area. And they took two tight sets from No. 2 5A Alexandria 25-23, 25-23 in a result that could score them some points when it comes to seeding the Calhoun County Tournament.

Here are the Lady Jackets’ statistical leaders for the night:

Cadie Burn: 20 assists, 4 digs, 3 aces.
Channing Gallahar: 5 kills.
Lakijah Brown: 24 kills, 9 digs.
Lisa Montgomery: 7 kills.
Adrionna Foster: 16 assists.
Abbie Mitchell: 6 kills.
Javanti Moore: 5 kills.
Ari Curry: 9 digs.

Alexandria was coming off an intense 2-2 weekend at Guntersville’s Supreme Courts. Jordan Beason had 29 kills and 21 digs in the event. Anna Johnson had 75 assists and 20 digs. Sarah Pelham had 41 digs. Lexi Weber had 23 kills and seven blocks.

Kandyn Blankenship had 13 kills and 27 digs. TyShica Woodgett had eight kills and six blocks, Kaylee Smith had 11 digs and Rylee Gattis had eight kills and four blocks.

Elsewhere, No. 5 2A Spring Garden defeated top-ranked 1A Donoho 3-1.
