SOUTHSIDE – Quarterback Michael Rich ran 18 yards for a touchdown with 6:53 to play to break a tie and lift Southside-Gadsden over Hokes Bluff 21-14 and snap the Eagles’ three-game winning streak in the series.

Rich’s score capped a 21-point comeback after Hokes Bluff opened a 14-0 lead early in the second quarter. The Panthers scored two touchdowns in the final 10:29 of the second quarter to earn a 14-14 halftime tie.

The Eagles got the ball back with 2:09 to play, but eventually turned it back over on downs with 1:02 left.

Rich rushed for 23 yards, but threw for 157 yards on 14-of-23 passing. The Panthers’ Carnel Davis was the game’s leading rusher with 124 yards on 24 carries.

Hokes Bluff’s Tucker Griffin scored the game’s first touchdown and went on to rush for 120 yards on 20 carries.
