By East Alabama Sports Today

Lakijah Brown was a force at the net and on the back line in helping Oxford beat White Plains and Saks in high school volleyball Monday night.

Brown had 14 kills, three aces and eight aces as the Lady Yellow Jackets fought off White Plains 25-20, 27-25, 15-13 and swept Saks 25-13, 25-23.

In the Lady Jackets’ opening weekend at Pleasant Valley, which included a straight-set victory over the host school, Brown had 24 kills, 11 digs and three aces.

“She is really evolving into a leader for us this year,” Lady Jackets assistant coach Rachel Poe said. “We have her playing all the way around for us and she is both a physical and verbal leader on and off the court.

“She is a completely different person this season and I believe her attitude has elevated her play. She adjusts well to sets, makes smart decisions and is able to read the defense well when on offense.”

Channing Gallahar had 11 kills and two digs for the Lady Jackets (3-2). Cadie Burn had five digs and eight assists. Ari Curry had seven digs, Aametria Wilson nine digs and Adrionna Foster 14 assists.
