HEFLIN – Jordan Sides’ tenure as Cleburne County’s volleyball coach couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.

She opened the season with her team Thursday with a pair of a straight-set victories, including one over her mentor.

The Lady Tigers took down Spring Garden, Sides’ alma mater, 26-24, 25-23, and swept Saks, 25-18, 25-16.

“It was amazing,” Sides said. “I was so excited. The girls were excited. We had a great crowd. It was just a really fun environment. Everyone played together and for each other. It was great.

“I always imagined what it would be like beating my mentor, Coach Rat (Ricky Austin), because everything I learned as a coach I learned from him. So, when it happened, I was just speechless. It was just an amazing feeling.”
