Weaver erupts for 19 runs in softball victory over Saks; White Plains golf second after first day of Blue-Gray

The Weaver softball team had one of its best offensive days of the season Monday, erupting for 19 runs in a 19-3 win over Saks.
 
Tiana Lawrence had a big night for the Lady Bearcats, who’ve been going through a rough patch of injuries lately, going 4-for-4 with six RBIs. Kellie Leach went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Madison Atchley went 2-for-3 with a triple. And Taylor Lawrence went 3-for-5.
 
Pitcher Erin Smith also collected a pair of hits and, in the circle, struck out six.
 
Alexandria 8, Southside 6: Rylee Gattis went 4-for-5 with a two-run homer in the first inning and five RBIs and pitched six innings of relief to get the win for the Lady Cubs. Millie Burt went 3-for-5 and Ashley Phillips, Lanie Dreyer and Addie Jennings had two hits apiece.  
 
White Plains 8, Etowah 0: Emma Howard pitched a complete-game six-hit shutout and the Lady Wildcats supported her with 10 hits. Callyn Martin went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Emma Jones and Lily Ponder had two hits apiece. 

Golf

MONTGOMERY – The defending champion White Plains golf team shot 307 Monday and sits in second place, five shots off the lead, after the first round of the Blue-Gray Invitational. St. Paul’s leads the field.
 
Kenny Okins led White Plains with a 74. The Wildcats also counted 75 from Gage Miller and 79s from Wesley Jenkins and Andrew Miller.
