ANNISTON – Cade Phillips hit both ends of a one-and-one with seven seconds left to put his team ahead and Domonique Thomas missed a contested runner as Westbrook Christian held off Ohatchee 51-50 in the Class 2A Area 11 boys tournament at the Anniston Aquatic Center.

The Warriors will play top-seeded host Sacred Heart in the championship game. Sacred Heart took out Gaston 95-43.

The Indians held Westbrook to only 11 points in the second half but the last two were backbreakers. They were down 13 at halftime, but rallied and took a 50-49 lead on two Cam Foushee free throws with 17 seconds left.

“He only shot two other free throws in the game and we thought that was their worst free throw shooter so I wasn’t even all that upset,” Ohatchee coach Bryant Ginn said. “Worst-case he’ll make one and we’ll be tied and we’ll have a shot at the end.

“Domonique got nearly all the way to the rim. We had a little play we called and it hit the rim and bounced off.”

Phillips, a 6-foot-7 freshman, had seven points. Joe Tucker hit five 3-pointers and led the Warriors with 17 points – all in the first half. Tucker, the former Alexandria standout, hit four of his 3s in the second-quarter barrage that carried the Warriors to their halftime lead. Westbrook hit seven 3s in the quarter and had nine in the game.

Trey Pesnell led Ohatchee with 13 points. Briley Hale had 12 and Foushee finished with 10.
