Alexandria sweeps Jacksonville in area match between traditional Calhoun County volleyball powers finding the right mix after key graduation losses.

JACKSONVILLE — Alexandria’s volleyball team spent much of its Labor Day weekend on the court, practicing Friday, playing Saturday and practicing Sunday and Monday.

“We’re just trying to figure it out,” veteran coach Whitney Welch explained. “… We’ve all got to come together and find a standard, and we’ve got to learn how to play together.

“We’ve got some young and old, and we’re trying to mesh it, and it’s not quite there yet.”

Kate Wheeler, Caylin Adams and Zayley Mobbs recorded a team-high six kills apiece, and the Valley Cubs put the extra work to good use Tuesday, sweeping Jacksonville 27-25, 25-15, 25-19 in an area match at Jacksonville.
