McAdory team champ, Dalton’s Noland (145) most outstanding wrestler; Alexandria’s New, Oxford’s Hill remain undefeated in weight classes

OXFORD – McAdory won the team title and Dalton’s dominant Hunter Noland was named outstanding wrestler in Saturday’s Oxford Invitational.
This was the final event for local teams prior to next week’s Calhoun County Championship meet at Pleasant Valley where Oxford and Alexandria will be considered the favorites for the team title.
Oxford finished second Saturday with 241.5 points. The Yellow Jackets scored three individual wins – Reed Hill (160), Keeshon Siaosi (195) and Kobe Shumaker (285), a winner for the second week in a row.
Alexandria’s Jaden New won at 138, taking a major decision over Oxford’s Chase Hicks. The two wrestled to an ultimate tiebreaker last week at Alexandria. The Valley Cubs finished third as a team, the first time they hadn’t won a dual match or tournament this season.
Reed (26-0) and New (30-0) both remained undefeated in winning their weight classes.
Noland pinned all four of his opponents and was leading previously undefeated Brandon Seawright of Minor in the title match 14-5 before scoring that pin in 3:26.
Although there wasn’t an official award, Siaosi’s title match at 195 was a likely candidate for best match of the tournament. He scored a 16-12 decision over Alexandria’s Connor Hall.
