OHATCHEE –
Aaron Moore returned to his old stomping grounds, scored 28 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and led Sacred Heart to a 68-44 area victory over Ohatchee Thursday night.

Moore played for the Indians before transferring to Sacred Heart.

The 6-7 senior got off to a fast start, scoring 10 in the first quarter. He had 21 in the first half.

“No doubt he had a great game,” Ohatchee coach Bryant Ginn said. “We didn’t have an answer.”

The Indians fouled out three players trying to find one. Cam Foushee (14) and Austin Wyatt combined for 27 points to lead the Indians.

“It’s not about his old school or just him; he played well – double double,” Cardinals coach Ralph Graves said. “It was big for us to get an area win. We’re 3-0 in the area and we’re on three consecutive days of games. Two are on the road (Ohatchee and Childersburg) and Saturday at home (John Carroll) so we are trying to be road warriors and stay locked in on being the best team we can be.”

LINCOLN —
Class 4A Area 9 figures to be an absolute dogfight this season with three potential top 10 teams – one a reigning state champion – playing for two spots in the state tournament.

Anniston put its nose out front first, beating Lincoln in its area opener.

“It was big because we were on the road and also because Lincoln is really good team,” Bulldogs coach Torry Brown said. “They’ve got one of the better players back this year (Javion Surles), so to come out and get a big area win on the road against a good team, that was big for us. It’s really good to go up 1-0 in the area.”

Kwame Milton scored 30 points, Antonio Kite had 25 and Tahj Jones hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter to get the Bulldogs going. Anniston scored 35 points in the first quarter and 51 in the first half.

“We shot the ball really well,” Brown said. “Tahj hit three 3s in the first quarter and they were making a run late to get back in it and Tahj hit a 3, then Kwame hit another and that gave us some separation.”

Lincoln put four scorers in double figures, led by Surles’ 18 points.

RANBURNE –
C.J. Gomez put up a layup that went through the hoop with seven-tenths of a second left to lift Faith Christian over Ranburne.

The Lions (4-2) trailed by four at halftime, but picked up their intensity in second half. They called time with 13 seconds left down one. Point guard Jacques Prater got the ball Josh Rutledge in the corner and Rutledge hit Gomez on a cut to the basket.

“We called time out and drew it up and it happened to work,” Lions coach Justin Kisor said. “By the time it hit the ground the game was over.”

Gomez finished with 19 points. Prater had 10, hitting three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
