SOUTHSIDE – After dropping its first set of the season, the Oxford volleyball team roared back to win four straight sets and win its two matches on the opening night of the season.
 
The Lady Jackets rallied to beat Southside 21-25, 25-14, 15-12, then swept Cherokee County 25-7, 25-10.
 
Lisa Montgomery had 11 kills to lead the Oxford offense. Tanyia McDonald had 10 kills, two aces and nine digs. Lakijah Brown had 10 kills and five digs. Shania Vincent had five kills and 16 digs. Aumaria Lindsey had eight kills and five digs. Brittany Davis had two aces and four digs. Cadi Burn had 28 assists.
 
“I think they all played well and contributed,” Oxford assistant coach Rachel Poe said. “We have struggled some playing together as a team and they came together tonight to pull out the win. We definitely have things to work on, but I am proud of how we started the season.”
 
The Lady Jackets return to action Friday in the 37thannual Juanita Boddie tournament at Hoover.
 
PV SPLITS: Pleasant Valley opened its season with a split, beating Sacred Heart 27-25, 25-18, and falling to White Plains 18-25, 25-16, 15-11. Here are the Lady Raiders’ composite statistics:
