Teams battle the elements on first day of various regional tournaments; Faith Christian erupts in opener at Choccolocco Park before getting washed out

OXFORD – Calhoun County teams battled a day full of rain as well as their opponents on the first day of play at the various regional softball tournaments Thursday.
Faith Christian, the only county team playing in the East Central Regional at Choccolocco Park, erupted for 15 runs in the first inning and drummed Autaugaville 15-0 in a three-inning game. 
The Lady Lions had only seven hits in the game, but Madi Snow smashed two three-run inside-the-park homers in the first inning. Anna Kerri also had a pair of hits and two RBIs in the inning. They sent 19 batters to the plate. The first eight batters reached safely.
Elizabeth Bedford and Kerri faced 12 batters in the game and didn’t allow a hit.
The Lady Lions (9-10-1) have scored 67 runs in their four post-season games.

“It was a great start,” Faith coach Jason Campbell said. “I anticipated a good start. The girls have been really focused and playing well lately.”
The Lady Lions will play Berry when play resumes. Berry swamped Victory Christian 23-0.
Hazel Green 13, Oxford 2: The Trojans hit four home runs and limited the Lady Jackets to seven hits in their opening game of the Florence Regional. Kelsey McPeters, winning pitcher McKenzie Newcomb and reliever Catherine Crabb (twice) all homered for Hazel Green. Ametria Wilson had two hits for Oxford and Alex Howard hit a solo home run.
The Lady Jackets will look to stave off elimination against Muscle Shoals.
