MOODY – The Munford Lions ended a nine-game losing streak in a big way Saturday, just in time for the playoffs.

The Lions pounded 27 hits in beating Moody 8-3 in a game scheduled for five innings and Pell City 11-1.

Five players had at least two hits in the opener. Dawson Strickland, Lawson Molden and Kade Keith had three hits apiece, while Drew Harkins and Payton Graben each collected two. Terry Davis gave up three runs in the first inning, then held Moody on two hits the rest of the game and got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth.

The Lions belted 11 hits in the nightcap against a Pell City team that was short on pitching. Dakota Green and Lawson Molden both went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Cannon Brasher was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Corben Smith went 2-for-3. Drew Harkins pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out four.

Dawson Winningham, who had two hits in the game, singled home the first run and Wesley Miller launched a three-run homer.

In the nightcap, two Hillcrest pitchers held the Yellow Jackets to five singles. Oxford catcher Jake Spivey’s hitting streak ended at 13 games in the opener.

The Jackets have a chance to rid themselves of that bad taste before the playoffs when they travel to Pell City Tuesday. They open the playoffs at Choccolocco Park Friday against Hartselle.
