Lady Wildcats tune up for county title defense by winning at Chesley Oaks, Dyar second in playoff

CULLMAN –
The White Plains girls golf team tuned up for the defense of its Calhoun County Tournament championship by winning a tournament at Chesley Oaks GC on Thursday.
 
The Lady Wildcats posted three scores in the 70s to shoot 225 as a team and put two players in the three-way medalist playoff to win by 27 shots. Russellville and Fairview tied for second.
 
White Plains teammates Hanna Dyar and Baylie Webb and Oneonta’s Mary Grace Davidson tied for medalist with 73s. Davidson won the playoff from Dyar when she parred the second hole of sudden death after both players advanced with birdies on the first playoff hole.
 
Even without injured defending medalist Lexee Cunningham, the Lady Wildcats are heavily favored to win the county tournament, which start Friday at Pine Hill CC, their home course.

Briarmeade Invitational

GLENCOE – Cedar Bluff’s Nick Sawyer shot 2-under-par 69 to win medalist honors and host Glencoe shot 339 to win the boys team title in the Links at Briarmeade Invitational.
 
Sawyer, an Appalachian State golf signee, won two by shots over his brother Mark and seven over Glencoe’s Brock McNeely.
 
In addition to McNeely, the Yellow Jackets counted 84s from Justin Graham and Hunter Fordham and a 95 from Isaac Barkley. They won by 18 over Hokes Bluff.
 
On the girls side, Glencoe’s Lauren Cole shot 79 to win medalist honors and Oak Mountain shot 259 to win the team title.
 
Cole won by five shots over Oak Mountain’s Sarah Hartsell. Oak Mountain won the team title by 30 over Glencoe.
