County claims 3 at Clem

Calhoun County brings home three individual titles from the Dick Clem Invitational, including most outstanding wrestler

Alexandria’s Fletcher Swindall, teammate and most outstanding wrestler Christian Knop and Weaver’s Caleb Allison all won individual titles Monday in the Dick Clem Invitational at Bob Jones.
 
Swindall won the 128 title with a forfeit win over Gadsden City’s Samuel Jaggears. Knop won the 197 title when he pinned Isaiah Cangelosi of Sparkman in 1:08. Allison won the 222 title when he pinned Micah Burdette of Madison County in 42 seconds.
 
Bob Jones won the team title with 286 points. Southside was fourth, Alexandria 12th, Weaver 13th.

Weaver’s Cody Souder finished second in 134 when he lost a 10-0 major decision to Jack Rivers of Spark Park. Alexandria’s Joseph Lomax was third in 108. Souder was one of seven wrestlers with four pins in the tournament, but had the fastest cumulative elapsed time of 4:09.
 
Allison had four pins in 4:06 and Knop, who counts among his goals for the remainder of the season pinning every match, had four pins in 5:38.

Knop was 4-0 with four pins, running his season record to 61-0 with 56 pins, 311-32 in his career and 225 in a row. He is now fourth on the AHSAA all-time list, behind Scottsboro’s Brandon Womack (422), Buckhorn’s Ben Smith (326) and Scottsboro’s Nick Boyett (319).

Southside’s Jacob Dease (122) and Ethan Stevenson (172) won their weight divisions. Among their teammates, Calen Staub was second in 115, Dathan Finley was third in 147 and Carnel Davis was fourth in 162.
