TUSCALOOSA – Savannah Williams went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs as Pleasant Valley edged county rival Ohatchee 6-3 to reach the winner’s bracket final of the Class 3A North Central Region softball tournament.
Williams had a pair of doubles, a leadoff triple in the third and a single. She had a two-run double in the first inning and an RBI double in the sixth. The Lady Raiders pounded 13 hits in the game. Julianna Ballew, Cortney Williams and Rylee Haynes each had two.
The Lady Raiders reached the game by outslugging Oakman 14-9. Cortney Williams went 3-for-3 with a homer and five RBIs to power that 16-hit attack.
Ohatchee reached the game by beating Holly Pond 6-4.
PV will now play Locust Fork in the winner’s bracket final Saturday at 10:30 a.m.; the winner advances to the state tournament in Montgomery.
Ohatchee now plays Wellborn in a 9 a.m. elimination game. Wellborn stayed alive with a wild 17-16 win over Glencoe, delivered by Sydney Carroll’s go-ahead triple in the top of the eighth.
In the Class 4A regional, White Plains looks to stave off elimination in a 9 a.m. game with Haleyville. The Lady Wildcats dropped their tournament opener to Cordova 11-1, but bounced back to rout Winfield 15-0.
Cherokee County is playing in the winner’s bracket final against Cordova. The Lady Warriors beat Dora 6-4 and Haleyville 5-3.
In the Class 5A North Regional in Huntsville, Alexandria advanced to the state tournament with a 9-8 victory over Russellville, rallying from a 7-2 deficit. Allison Bonds homered to get the rally started and Leighton Sparks delivered a two-run hit for the game-winner.
