Providence Christian wins White Plains Girls Invitational team title, Randolph’s Morard medalist; Okins ace

By East Alabama Sports Today

SILVER LAKES – Randolph’s Michaela Morard made five birdies, including one on her final hole to get to even par, and won medalist honors Tuesday at the White Plains Girls Invitational.

Morard made three birdies going out on the Mindbreaker 9 and two coming home on the Backbreaker 9. She won by two shots over Grace Narrell of Arab and three over Lauren Thompson of team champion Providence Christian.

Providence Christian’s Allison Howard (80) was fourth, while Oxford’s Kayla Huckeba and Providence Christian’s Emma Cox tied for fifth (81).

Narrell was even par through 13 holes and held a one-shot lead over Morard, but Morard drew even with a par on 14. Morard took the lead with a birdie on 15, gave it back with a bogey on 16 then moved back into the lead when Narrell bogeyed 17.

With its three counters all in the top five, Providence Christian won the team title by 21 shots over Arab. White Plains finished third.

While the tournament was underway the White Plains boys team was practicing on the Short Course in advance of its event on the big course Wednesday and Kenny Okins scored a hole-in-one. He aced the eighth hole from 146 yards with a 5-iron.
