Gadsden City boys, Westbrook girls win Gadsden Area Tournament; Westbrook’s Wethington, Glencoe’s Cole win medalist honors

GADSDEN – Glencoe’s Lauren Cole continued her run of strong play Monday, posting a 5-over-par 77 to win the girls division of the Gadsden Area Golf Tournament at Twin Bridges Golf Club.
Westbrook Christian’s Wil Wethington won the boys title with a 71. He won by five shots over Etowah’s Alex Argo and Eli Antisdale.
Gadsden City shot 321 as a team and won by boys title by 11 over Westbrook and 12 over Southside. Westbrook’s girls shot 278 and won their division by a wide margin.
Cole won by two shots over Westbrook Christian’s Ellie Porter. She was three shots ahead of playing partner Porter at the turn and solidified her victory with a birdie at the par-5 15th to offset a bulky finishing coming home.
Boys Team Scores: Gadsden City 321, Westbrook Christian 332, Southside 333, Hokes Bluff 350, Etowah 353, Sardis 377, Glencoe 379.
Girls Team Scores: Westbrook Christian 278, Gadsden City 303, Hokes Bluff 372, Etowah 374, Southside 382.
