Oxford sweeps pair of games to close its Choccolocco Spring Break Experience

OXFORD – Oxford rallied from a seven-run deficit to win one game, then broke open another with an eight-run inning, sweeping its final two games in the Choccolocco Spring Break Experience.

The Yellow Jackets staged their big rally to beat Bob Jones 11-10, then used their big inning to crush Wetumpka 10-0.

The Jackets trailed Bob Jones 10-3 after the visitors’ fourth. Tate Adams’ three-run homer highlighted a four-run bottom of the inning that got Oxford close, then the Jackets scored four more in the sixth to take the lead. Carson Lindsey’s two-run double pulled the Jackets with a run and Brody Syer’s RBI single put them ahead.

Brantley Bargerhuff got the final out with the bases loaded in the seventh to preserve the victory and then pitched shutout baseball into the fifth of the nightcap.

The Yellow Jackets sent 13 batters to the plate in their big inning against Wetumpka. Brennan McCullough had a two-run single in the inning, while Syer, Caden Higgins, Lindsey and Chadd Adams also drove home runs.

Adams had two hits and two RBIs in the game. Syer and Reece Howard also had two hits.

In the Bob Jones Game, Tate Adams and Lindsey both had three RBIs. Tate Adams, Trey Mooney and Syer had two hits apiece.

Cleburne County 12, Weaver 2: Jordan Brown drove in four runs, Noah Gaines had two RBIs and four Heflin pitchers scattered five hits in the victory. Starting pitcher Nick Dunston had two hits for the Tigers. Dylan Deloach drove in both Weaver runs with a two-run single in the second and Colby Thompson went 2-for-2.
