Nearly two dozen East Alabama Sports Today area players, coaches get all-state recognition; Graves, Austin named coaches of the year

Ralph Graves made the pitch after his Sacred Heart team won its fourth straight Class 1A state championships wondering what it takes to win Coach of the Year and the state high school writer’s listened.

Graves was named boys Class 1A Coach of the Year among 23 East Alabama Sports Today area players and coaches who received all-state recognition this weekend.

Sacred Heart’s Diante Wood was a first-team Class 1A pick, an odds-on favorite to win 1A Player of the Year and a leading contender for Mr. Basketball.
